3 Best Strategies for Reaching Out To Professionals

Updated: Aug 2, 2023

One of the best ways to get more clients is to reach out to professional members of your community. I always get my best referrals from acupuncturists, chiropractors, doulas, massage therapists, yoga teachers, midwives and OBs.

However, one way to totally sabotage this strategy is to write them a message that doesn’t excite them.

Below are my three favorite things to include in your outreach content (emails, phone calls, social media messages, etc) to make that professional stoked to meet you.

  1. Know their story. Read their website, social media and about their profession. If they feel like you put effort into researching them, they will be more likely to respond to your email or phone call. If it seems like you send the same, impersonal email out en masse they won't be excited to respond. Also, once you meet up with them, it’s a great conversation starter to ask more detailed questions about what they do. I recommend jotting down some questions before the meeting in case your brain sometimes blanks out like mine during networking.

  2. Be sure to include points of contact. Mention any common clients or reflect back to them what your community says about them. For example: “My colleague and fellow doula Rebecca Smith raves about you. She’s had so many clients have great experiences using your services.”

  3. Let them know what’s in it for them. Lead with letting them know you want to connect so you can learn how best to refer your clients to them - and let that be true. If you are able to give quality referrals out to your clients, it will be an extra special benefit to your services - and then those clients will refer you out more.
